Medicals We Offer Near Oldham
HGV/LGV Medicals
The first step in starting a career as a HGV driver is to get your provisional Category C licence. Also known as Class 2 licence, this is the entry level qualification to drive commercially.
The Cat C licence provides opportunities for many business sectors and the type of driving can vary ranging from local deliveries to international logistics.
PCV/Bus Medicals
This is required for all new bus, coach and minibus drivers as well as those that are renewing their licence.
We provide DVLA-compliant medicals for PCV, PSV, bus and minibus drivers
All bus drivers must undertake a compulsory medical before applying for a provisional category D licence.
If you are applying for a minibus licence (category D1) and passed your driving test from 1997 onwards you are also required to undertake a medical.
AMBULANCE MEDICAL
As an ambulance driver, a provisional C1 licence is required to operate as a paramedic.
All current paramedics and ambulance drivers, including students who passed their driving test after 1st January 1997 require a D4 medical in order to safely operate an ambulance vehicle. If you passed prior to this period, then the C1 category is automatically added to your licence.
Motorhome Medicals
You are required to undergo a D4 medical assessment to obtain a C1 licence.
If you passed your driving test from January 1997 onwards you will need a D4 medical to apply for a C1 provisional licence and subsequently train and pass the test to drive C1 vehicles (if your motorhome is over 3.5 tonne)
If you passed your driving test before 1st January 1997 you automatically obtained the C1 licence through a scheme known as βgrandfather rightsβ. However, a medical is required when you turn 70 in order for you to retain C1 entitlements. This will then need to be renewed every 3 years.
FORKLIFT/CRANE OPERATORS MEDICAL
For most work involving lift trucks, a standard of fitness equivalent to that for Group 1 entitlement (ordinary driving licence holders) is appropriate. However, activities such as working in a particularly demanding environment, working at night or transporting hazardous waste would require assessment in line with Group 2 entitlement (heavy goods vehicle licence holders).
Employers may choose to screen potential operators in accordance with Group 2 licences whereby a medical examination is required every 5yrs from the age of 45 and every years from the age of 65 (in line with licence renewal periods).
Taxi Medicals
To operate as a taxi driver the DVLA upholds the same standards required to hold a Group 2 lorry or bus licence.
All taxi licencing applicants (new and renewal) undertake a medical upon initial application and every 5yrs thereafter.
Each council have specific requirements as to who can complete your medical whether it is your own GP or an approved driver medical provider such as D4U. Please check with your local authority for more information.
